Taifun failed to cope with the first challenge

On September 5, Taifun played the first match of the new season of Olimpbet JHL Championship. The team of Ilgiz Nuriev met with the hockey team Kapitan in the ice palace of the city of Stupino.
Interesting fact is the rivals approached this meeting with the same number of victories in previous confrontations. Each team had 13 wins in regulation time, two wins in overtime and one in shootout series.
For both teams, the outcome of the meeting was crucial. The home team lost their first home game to the Amur Tigers, while Taifun had won their last three preseason games, and it was important to keep the team's momentum going for the upcoming season.
At the beginning of the match Taifun took the lead, opening the score of the meeting. Top scorer of the youth league of Kazakhstan Roman Strochkin scored his first goal at the new level. Stepan Levitsky and Andrei Florovsky helped the forward to organize an attack - 0:1. A few minutes later, Fyodor Abramov, Kapitan's last season top scorer, evened the score. And near the end of the first period, the hosts took the lead - 2:1.
At the end of the second period Taifun had a double advantage in shots, but the conversion wasn’t so good. At the same time, Kapitan players' productive actions were reflected on the scoreboard - 3:1.
In the third period, Taifun responded with a wave of attacks, but failed to turn the tide of the game. In the middle of the period, the fans of the Primorye team felt relieved with hope for a comeback when Yegor Chebykin threw the puck into the opponent's goal. However, the referees suspected a high sticking in front of the opponent's goal. After a long video consulting, the referees decided not to allow the goal. A good old friend, Fyodor Abramov, finally deprived Taifun of chances to win, having made a double and thus setting the final score of the meeting - 4:1 in favor of Kapitan.
On Friday, September 6, the rivals will play the second match. The game will start at 19:00 Moscow time, 02:00 Vladivostok time. Live broadcast of the matches will be on the YouTube channel and the official website of the JHL.
