Taifun suffered the first shutout defeat of the season
On Sunday, October 6, Taifun hosted Moscow Krylya Sovetov on home ice. Both teams are especially motivated. The visitors went through the Far East without defeats, taking maximum points in Khabarovsk and Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. At the same time, Taifun had three victories in the last home matches and was ready to give the Moscow team a fight.
The beginning of the match was dynamic, but at the same time disciplined. In the first period, Taifun defense was shining, repelling all attacks of the opponent. Field players blocked 9 shots, and the Primorye goalkeeper Ruslan Kakenov blocked 10 shots.
The counterattacks were not so frequent, but no less dangerous.
In the second period, the teams switched roles, Taifun was more often the attacking side. Roman Strochkin was the first in the list of contenders for a goal, and defenseman Alexei Ivashinnikov aimed at the goal more often than others. But the overall picture remained the same, the opponents played on equal terms. The hosts were the first to violate the rules, which allowed Krylya to open the scoring. However, this goal was not so much due to the power play, as to the goalkeeper's mistake. Kakenov got out of the goal, threw the puck away, but it was intercepted by an opposing player who immediately caught it - 0:1. The second puck ended up in Taifun’s goal literally 8 seconds later - 0:2. Then, the goalkeeper was replaced, Alexander Privalov made his debut for the team. In order to revive the team, Ilgiz Nuriyev did not wait until the break, taking a timeout. In the second period, Taifun made significantly more shots than their opponents: 40-16, of which 21 shots reached the goal, but the score remained in favor of the guests.
In the first half of the third period, the opponents took turns in power play, but this did not affect the score. The key moment occurred in the 52nd minute of the match, when Krylya Sovetov scored their third goal. Three minutes before the end of the match, the visitors scored again. Leaving no chance for the hosts to come back.
The result of the match was 0:4. For the first time this season, the Taifun players left the ice without scoring goals.
However, tomorrow, Ilgiz Nuriyev's team will have a chance to take revenge. On October 7, the second match between the opponents will take place. The start is at 19:00, admission is free.
Match Statistics: Shots: 72-64; Shots on goal: 35-35; Goals: 0-4; Faceoffs won: 35-28; Blocked Shots: 21-21; Hits: 13-12; Takeaways: 4-2; Losses: 1-2; Interceptions: 5-4; Penalties: 6-2.
