Leaving failures behind
On March 12, Typhoon played the first of two home games against Hors-Karelia.
The home team had more chances to score in the first period. Typhoon players tested the opponents’ goalie time after time, but could not find a loophole in guests’ net.
At the same time, the hosts actively tried to secure their most vulnerable spots, pushing the opponents back from the slots. However, the visitors carried out a massive attack at
Noskov
's net in the final minute. The goalie made a series of incredible saves, and the puck miraculously didn't cross the goal line.
In the second period, both goalies kept their nets intact again. The shot statistics by the 40th minute of the game were impressive – 29-12, so the fact of zeros on the scoreboard was surprising. Stepan Levitsky had two good moments at the opponent's net, Alexander Grigoryan hit a dangerous shot under the crossbar, defenseman Vasily Pets broke one-on-zero. In turn, the guests had a chance to open the scoring on the power play, but the puck hit the goalpost.
In the first seconds of the third period, the scored was finally opened. Unfortunately for the local fans, it was the guests who scored. Hors-Karelia players interrupted their goalless series, lasting more than a hundred minutes – 0:1. However, Typhoon’s goalless streak was bigger by that time. Ilgiz Nuriev's players haven’t managed to score for about nine periods.
And it was Vasily
Pets
who broke the curse with a precise shot from the blue line – 1:1. This goal was a real weight off the shoulders for the team and the fans. At the same time, the goal became the first for Pets in Junior Hockey League. Five minutes later, Alexander
Grigoryan
put the hosts ahead: the forward picked a pass from Andrei
Florovsky
and hit the puck from the slot – 2:1. Stepan
Levitsky
scored next. He also confirmed the title of the team's top scorer, taking part in the next attack, which was completed by Roman
Yefimov
– 4:1.
As a result, Typhoon won, breaking a six-game losing streak.
The next game between Typhoon and Hore-Karelia will be played on March 14. The game starts at 9:00 a.m. GMT.
