Goaling lull
On Wednesday, March 5, Typhoon faced Atlant of Mytishchi in Vladivostok.
From the very beginning, the opponents set a high tempo of the game, but didn’t create serious threats to Typhoon’s net. The home team had to defend several times during the penalty kill in the first period, which took a lot of effort. At the end of the period, Typhoon had an opportunity to capitalize on a double numerical superiority, but failed to take this chance.
In the second period, both teams began to organize dangerous attacks, but still nobody managed to finish them successfully. In particular, this was the merit of goalies’ excellent performance. The most notable forward in these twenty minutes was Ivan Fomin: Typhoon best scorer constantly escalated the game in the offensive zone.
The home team started the third period playing short-handed, and the guests were able to capitalize on the fourth power play attempt. In the 41st minute, Atlant opened the scoring – 0:1, and then stopped creating more moments. Meanwhile, Typhoon was outplaying the opponents in all respects of the game. Nikita Susuev tried to beat the visitors' goalie several times, defenseman Anton Shkolny helped to develop the attacks, Roman Strochkin broke one-on-zero – and that's just the most impressive moments. As a result, Atlant's goaltender was able to deflect all 32 shots and became a key player in the game, securing the victory for his team. Ilgiz Nuriev's wards failed to seize their opportunities for the second game in a row.
Result – 0:1.
Typhoon will play the next game a week later, on March 12. The opponent will be Hors-Karelia. The game starts at 9:00 a.m. GMT.
