Fight to the first mistake
On March 21, Typhoon faced Sakhalin Sharks on the home ice. The two derby games will be the last in the 2024/2025 regular season.
The Sharks opened the scoring three minutes after the beginning, capitalizing on their first power play just in four seconds.
In the middle of the period, the home team began to take initiative. During the period, Typhoon had two power play opportunities to draw level, but the visitors didn't allow the opponents to settle in the end zone.
Still, Typhoon had few organized attacks, didn’t take the chances to hit the puck on the rebound, and the Islanders’ goalie confidently coped with all long-range shots. The teams went into the first break with the score 0:1.
In the second twenty minutes, Typhoon had more puck possession, attacked more dangerously, and shot on goal more often (18-11). However, it was not an easy task to outplay the visitors' goalie. Only at the end of the period Andrei Florovsky managed to take him by surprise: he intercepted the puck after a field player's mistake and evened the score – 1:1.
In the third period, the game progressed to the first mistake. And it was Typhoon which made it – the guests seized the opportunity after Primorye players’ unfortunate attack, regaining the lead in the 49th minute of the game. In the final minutes, Typhoon had a chance to draw level on the power play: the hosts pulled the goalie and played six-on-four, but the Sharks' goalie withstood a serious onslaught and secured the victory for his team.
Result – 1:2. Tomorrow, March 22, Typhoon will play a second game against Sakhalin Sharks. The game will be the last one in the current championship for both teams and starts at 7:00 a.m. GMT.
