The Sailors will finish their away series with a match against CSKA

Having traveled through the Moscow region, the Sailors moved to the very center of the capital city, where they will finish their first away series of the season on September 8. The opponent is more than challenging - CSKA. Without the prefix “reigning Gagarin Cup winner” it's hard to even recognize this club. But after two years at the top, the Moscow team didn't even make it past the first round. And, probably, there was no way to avoid a reshuffle. In April, Sergei Fedorov, whose name was associated with the Army Men's last two championships, left his head coach post. Ilya Vorobyov, who had reached the first place with Magnitogorsk in the past, was appointed in his place. Coaches with different approaches are united by the fact that they earned their major League trophies in their debut years in the position of coach, whatever that means.
But Ilya Petrovich started his debut season in his new team with a defeat. CSKA couldn't match up with Spartak. Dmitry Vishnevsky's 55th-minute goal decided the outcome of the game, and the teams had hit each other's goal twice before that. The Army Men played that game away. The game with the Sailors will be the first home game and the first one in front of their own stands.

It's hard to call CSKA's transfer market policy aggressive in recent years. There were some reinforcements, but they were small. The fans didn't have to retrain the roster much. But apparently, the time has come for serious changes. Grigorenko, Slepyshev, Svetlakov, Plotnikov, and Dietz, players whose names are strongly associated with the team, has left the team. Ivan Fedotov, whose last year transfer made a lot of noise, left as well. The old guard has been replaced by the American paratroopers. No, these are not legionnaires, but our guys who played overseas. Denis Guryanov, who has 52 pucks in 298 NHL games. He will try to take over Grigorenko's sniper role. Nikita Okhotyuk, one of the defensive players on San Jose's main roster last season, will try to perform as a defensive wrecker. Colorado's Ivan Prosvetov, 25 y. o., has been assigned for the role of number one on the back line. And that's only half of those who decided to return to Russia. But the Army Men have had time to work on the local market as well. During exchange, Salavat Yulaev's third scorer Ivan Drozdov moved to Moscow from Ufa. The young forward is getting better every season, and by the age of 24 he had reached the 48 points per season mark.
Familiar faces
We'll have to watch old friend Colby in a CSKA uniform until at least the spring of 2026. Williams, a technical homeboy, played 33 games for the Army Men last season, scoring 9 points with a P/M +12, which was enough to sign a two-year contract.
