In the games with Lada and Kunlun Red Star, the Leopards won with one goal difference. And they earned one point, losing to Ak Bars in overtime. Sibir and Barys turned out to be too tough for the Predators. Sochi has 25 points in total, which is the last result in the West. They finished 11 out of 25 matches in their favor and earned a point in three more.
Off-season
The Southerners entered the new season with a new goaltending line. Mikhail Berdin, who played 50 matches, as well as Maxim Tretiak and Nikita Bogdanov, left the team. They were replaced by Sergei Ivanov and Yegor Zavragin, but, after a short stay in the sun, he went to St. Petersburg.
The main squad of Sochi's defense remained, with a few exceptions. But the Southerners were missing Danila Galenyuk, who moved to SKA. The 24-year-old defenseman returned to his native team after the best season of his career. In Sochi, he became the second-best scorer - defenseman, having scored 15 points. Attacking defenseman Maxim Fedotov went in the opposite direction. Two seasons earlier, he was the best in the Torpedo team, but so far, he has not been able to reach his level, being the worst player in terms of GPA.
A great advantage is that they managed to re-sign forward Artur Tyanulin, who has suddenly become a leader. Another plus is the invitation of Suvorov, Dmitry Timashov and Igor Shvyryov. Denis Vengryzhanovsky can also become a plus if he adds stability. There is only one clear loss - Michkov. Actually, Jeremy Bracco can also be considered a loss. Overall, it turns out that the attack has strengthened - albeit not very significantly, but still.
Sergei Zubov has returned to the coaching bridge. He has already worked on the Black Sea coast and remains the most successful coach in the history of Sochi. It was under him that the southerners reached the playoffs twice. After Zubov's transfer in 2019, no one managed to bring Sochi to the cup stage, and no one had managed to win there even once before.
Familiar faces
Sergei Ivanov spent his first full season in the KHL as part of the Sailors. He played 33 games for Primorye, and in terms of reliability, he slightly surpassed even the experienced Vasily Demchenko. During the championship, Ivanov was recognized as the best goalkeeper of the week. And by the end of the regular season, he entered the top 5 goalies. In Sochi, Ivanov is the undisputed number one. He played more than 75 percent of the games and had two shutouts. Another good friend of ours, Nikolai Chebykin, plays for Sochi. The forward moved south during the last championship, which did not work out in Vladivostok, but in his new place, things went better. In the new season, Chebykin is one of the leaders in terms of playing time, on average, he spends a little more than 17 minutes.
Upcoming match
Admiral and Sochi will meet for the 18th time in the KHL championships. The Sailors have won 10 times. The last meeting on the ice of Fetisov Arena ended in favor of the hosts. Then Leonids Tambijevs team beat the southerners with a score of 3:1. This season, the rivals have already met, and that game turned into a crushing defeat for Admiral - 0:5.
