A victory over the star team
On November 28, Admiral started the home series with a match against St. Petersburg SKA. The coaching staff did not make any major changes to the lineup before the new game on the ice of Fetisov Arena. Shestakov returned to the center of the third line, and Shevchenko moved down to the fourth line instead of Nikolayev.
The game began with a very dangerous scoring opportunity at the Army team's goal. Moisevich ended up lying on the ice after a shot, Rodewald hurried to finish the shot, but the goalie managed to raise his shield at the last moment and deflect the threat.
The first truly dangerous attack of the visitors was during their power play. Admiral violated the rules in the ninth minute. During the siege of Mishurov's goal, Nikishin was shooting from the faceoff circle, and the young captain of the Army team was accurate. Shen's line could have responded. The center himself closed from the crease after a pass from Gutik, but he lacked accuracy, and there was simply no time to aim better. In the second half of the period, Mishurov had more work to do, but the Sailors' goalie kept the team in the game and succeeded even without a stick. Perhaps the main test for him was Tolchinsky's one-timer, but the Primorye goalie read this moment too. Towards the end of the period, the hosts had a second chance power play. They failed to convert it before the intermission, and the teams went into the break with the score 1:0 in favor of the visitors.
At the start of the second period, the Sailors were given a little more than a minute to capitalize on the extra time. And that was enough. Soshnikov scored, recording his 199th point in the League. The puck became an additional motivation for the hosts, and the Sailors kept this period for themselves. They outshot their opponents twice and spent twice as much time on the attack. For seven shots from SKA, the Sailors responded with 17 shots. But the period did not go smoothly. In the 36th minute, the referees were forced to turn to the video replay to determine whether the puck crossed Mishurov's goal after the army team's attack. The referees' verdict was in favor of the home team.
In the third period, the opponents scored a goal each. Admiral played clearly and cleanly, and after SKA's goal, the referees had questions. In the 48th minute, the Sailors took the lead, converting their power play opportunity. The goal was atypical for a game with unequal teams. Fiore entered the zone with a throw, did not allow the goalie to cover the puck and sent it to the crease, where Rodewald finished the moment. The visitors managed to tie the score only five minutes before the siren. The referees again checked the goal, because the goal itself was moved. But after a detailed analysis, it was determined that the Army team made a rearrangement in Mishurov's zone after the puck crossed the coveted line. Khairullin scored a goal. That was the last goal in the match. And even after a great overtime, the opponents could not escape the shootout series.
The shootout series went to the Sailors. Mishurov scored a goal, and Zavgorodny and Soshnikov made successful attempts. The result was 3:2, Admiral won their second victory in a row.
